Week one.

Sat Jan 6, 2007, 9:16 PM
I survived week one.
I introduced a lesson yesterday morning. I didn't hear many groans or complaints and they seemed to maybe learn something and get somewhere with themselves. We will actually be starting the project this coming Tuesday. EEP! I will be in charge of half of the class.

I also took an interest back in one of my unfinished works started last fall. That of my cityscape stitchey. I would say if the kids are doing one, I should be too.

That would be a good policy to have, working on a type of art similar to what my students are at the time. I like that idea. It's very good.
Keeps me making art. Something important that I think ALL art teachers should do. They should do something of some sort. Be it drawing, painting, scuplture, whatever. They need to keep up with their own work and knowledge and implement it in their lives.

Please God let me think this way about teaching art in a decade...

I'm also enjoying my first weekend off too. ^_^

Oh man, I am really enjoying your journals right now, since I am ALREADY anxious and nervous about what you are doing! Doesn't it seem that in highschool you decide to be a teacher (or in uni... whenever) and until you actually GET to the part where you have to teach you are SOOOOO confident!

I helped out in teaching some classes where my mum works when I went home for vacation in November.... it was terrifying, yet fun.

Right now I am praying that 10 years from now it WON'T be terrifying and will STILL be fun!

Good luck with week two ;)!
I'm glad someone is benefitting from my experiences.

What sort of teacher do you want to be?

I think if you really want to do it, you will be ok. ^_^

Right now I am in school for primary/junior education (grades k-6). I'm sure I will be fine too, as you will be, but I still understand how you feel!!
Are you really?
That's cool. Basically, you are going to be an elementary school teacher. Awesome. I used to want to teach art at that grade level...
Not anymore. ;)

Yeah! If you are going to go for art, you might as well do it right, eh? Personally I don't know if I would want to go to all the trouble to teach grade threes how to do simple crafts and art projects. I'm lucky I guess cause I have very little artistic ability and I LOVE doing crafts little kids can enjoy... prolly cause I can actually do them :P ^^;
I really don't think I want an elementary school. High school or middle is more my thing. I just need to get past the hormones in middle school and the jaded high school atitudes. ^_^

Haha! That is exactly why I have decided on grade 3 or 4. K they cry all day cause they miss their mums, 1 they cry cause they are in school all day, 2 they finally finish learning basic math, spelling, etc. But with 5 the hormones and "coolness" begins....

The dreaded coolness....

I can only wish you luck if you (and you prolly will) teach any kids like some of the ones I went to class with!
Haha, I have taught little kids like that. I'm not sure I want to handle it.

I don't dread the coolness, it's there for the rest of their lives.
